A few months back, I put together a guide to the best budget tablets for gaming and emulation. While I still stand by those recommendations, I recently came across a deal that’s too good not to share – the CHUWI AuPad is currently on sale for just $120 on Amazon, $129 on Walmart, $134 on AliExpress without coupons, (and $117 on the official site for our Non-America readers). It’s worth serious consideration if you’re in the market.
Key Specs:
- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 (8-core, 6nm)
- RAM: 8GB LPDDR4X
- Storage: 128GB UFS 2.2 (expandable via microSD)
- Display: 10.95″ IPS LCD, 1920×1200 (60Hz)
- Battery: 7000mAh with 18W charging
- Cameras: 13MP rear, 5MP front
- Connectivity: 4G LTE, WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS
- Ports: USB-C, 3.5mm headphone jack
- Dimensions: 8mm thick, ~500g weight
- OS: Android 13
What makes this tablet special is how it builds on the foundation of those earlier recommendations. Like the best devices in my previous guide, it uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor (the 685 in this case) rather than cutting corners with cheaper alternatives. This means you’re getting:
- Reliable GameCube and Wii emulation at playable speeds
- Flawless PSP performance at 2x resolution
- Surprisingly good 3DS compatibility
- Enough power for modern Android games at medium settings
Gaming and Emulation Testing
The 8GB of RAM and UFS storage are nice upgrades over some of the more basic $100 tablets I previously recommended. While it’s not perfect – you’ll still want headphones for the best audio experience, and graphically intensive games will need settings adjusted – the $120 price point makes this one of the better values I’ve seen recently.
If you’ve been waiting for an affordable way to play retro games on the go, this sale makes the AuPad worth considering. It’s rare to find Snapdragon-powered performance at this price, and when deals like this pop up, they don’t tend to last forever.
