Namco Bandai just dropped the reveal that Hwoarang will be returning to the roster, and I am hyped!
For those of you who don’t know, Hwoarang is a Korean Tae Kwon Do fighter who made his debut in Tekken 3. He’s a fan favorite for his flashy kicks and high-flying acrobatics, and he’s been a staple of the series ever since. But with Tekken 7’s story mode wrapping up the Mishima saga, we weren’t sure if we’d be seeing him again.
But now, with Tekken 8 on the horizon, Hwoarang is back in action, and I couldn’t be happier. As a Tae Kwon Do player myself, I’ve always had a soft spot for Hwoarang, and seeing him return to the fray is a dream come true.
Now, we don’t know too much about Hwoarang’s role in Tekken 8 just yet. We know he’ll be fighting alongside some of the other returning characters like Jin and Kazuya, and we can expect to see some new moves and combos from him. His rage system favors some of his best moves.
One thing I’m hoping for is a more fleshed-out story for Hwoarang. In previous Tekken games, he’s mostly been a side character in the overarching Mishima storyline. But with Tekken 8 being a fresh start for the series, there’s a chance for Hwoarang to take center stage and get some more character development.
Of course, there are some fans who might be disappointed that other characters didn’t make the cut instead of Hwoarang. Personally, I think it’s great to see him return, but everyone has their own favorite characters that they want to see in the game. All in all, I’m stoked to see Hwoarang back in action in Tekken 8. With his lightning-fast kicks and high-flying combos, he’s sure to be a force to be reckoned with.
