The 2024 Cosplay Competition at C2E2 showcased the talent and creativity of cosplayers from across the globe. Spearheaded by esteemed judges Dessi-Desu, Sameer Tikka Masala, and 2023 Global Finals winner Nerds Gone Wild Cosplay, the event was set to dazzle attendees. Adding to the excitement was the renowned emcee Yaya Han, C2E2’s cosplay guest of honor, whose presence elevated the atmosphere to new heights.
One notable observation this year was the shift away from the dominance of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) entries. While Marvel characters have traditionally been popular choices for cosplayers, this year saw a notable decline, suggesting a possible evolution in cosplay trends.
Instead, the spotlight shone on beloved franchises like The Legend of Zelda, Monster Hunter, and Ever After, captivating audiences with their intricate costumes and attention to detail. A notable trend that emerged was the prevalence of chainmail in many cosplays, indicating a resurgence of interest in medieval and fantasy themes.
Yaya Han’s expertise and passion for cosplay were evident as she provided insightful commentary on the construction and craftsmanship of the costumes. Her explanations offered the audience valuable insights into the intricate processes behind bringing these characters to life, highlighting the dedication and skill of the cosplayers.
Despite a decrease in the number of contestants, the quality of cosplays remained exceptional, underscoring the dedication and talent of the participants. While the competition may have been smaller in scale compared to previous years, the level of creativity and craftsmanship showcased never wavered.
