Evo Japan 2023, the annual fighting game tournament, had fans buzzing with excitement over the weekend as two new character trailers were released. The surprises didn’t stop there, as both trailers featured beloved Tekken characters that fans have been eagerly awaiting to see. The two trailers revealed the inclusion of fan favorite LeeRoy Smith and veteran Asuka Kazama in the upcoming Tekken 8.
The trailer for LeeRoy showcased the character’s new dapper costume, which has already become a topic of conversation among fans. However, the biggest surprise came from the fact that LeeRoy’s powerful moves have been relegated to the new heat system. This means that players will have to be strategic about when to use his most powerful moves, as they can only be executed when his heat gauge is full.
But don’t worry, LeeRoy fans, as the new heat system has also opened up new combo routes for the character. Players can expect to experiment with different combo routes to find the most optimal way to unleash LeeRoy’s devastating moves on their opponents.
Asuka’s new face model also looks vastly improved over her Tekken 7 version. In addition to the new look, Asuka has also been given a lot of new moves to play with. Her gameplay has been fine-tuned to be the polar opposite of Jun’s, which should make for some interesting matchups.
However, I was a little disappointed in Asuka’s Rage Art, which I consider to be a bit underwhelming compared to other characters’ Rage Arts. Nevertheless, Asuka’s gameplay changes and new moves more than make up for this minor flaw.
Overall, the Tekken community is excited to see the inclusion of LeeRoy and Asuka in the upcoming game, and the Evo Japan 2023 trailers have only served to amplify this excitement. With new gameplay mechanics and moves to master, it looks like Tekken 8 will be a game that fans won’t want to miss.
