Nintendo streamed their Nintendo Direct telecast showcasing a slew of new titles coming to the Nintendo Switch. There are a lot of games shown today. Fear not, Anthony has an in-depth recap of today’s Nintendo Direct you can read. But, I’m here to discuss two unexpected games coming to the Nintendo Switch this year.
Tokyo RPG Factory is releasing their next project called Oninaki; an action RPG published by SquareEnix. After the release of I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear, they are tasks with their first action RPG. I am eager to see how this project turns out. From the initial trailer, it looks very promising.
About: Players assume the role of a Watcher named Kagachi, doing battle by “manifesting” the souls of Daemons, which act as the classes found in traditional roleplaying games. Each Daemon has its own unique weapons and skills, and players can shift between them in real time to gain the upper hand in battle. Moving between the Living World and the realm of the dead known as the Beyond, Kagachi must save the souls of the Lost, as the story of life and reincarnation in this wondrous kingdom unfolds.

We were waiting impatiently to hear about Bayonetta 3. At least a new clip or JPEG of her new costume. Just something would have been nice. However, Nintendo knew that the Bayonetta deprived fans would need something to tide us over until the next installment is released. (Let’s hope it’s still coming this year.) To many people’s surprise, we got a trailer for another upcoming Action game developed by PlatinumGames called Astral Chain. Directed by Takahisa Taura (Nier) and supervised by Hideki Kamiya (Viewtiful Joe, Bayonetta), this game brings the highly stylized over-the-top action that we’ve come to love.
“As part of a police special forces unit in a multicultural futuristic city, players work together with a special living weapon, the Legion, in a synergetic action system of battle and exploration.” I will say that the footage from the trailer looks very promising. You’ll take control of one of the Twin protagonists and a “Special living weapon” that you can use to employ devastating attacks and combos. You can send your partner to do your dirty work for you, act as support or work in tandem. Astral Chain will be available on the Nintendo Switch on August 30, 2019.
